The Descent movies are some solid horror movies. The first is an instant classic in my mind because it has realistic characters, great monster and some of the best scares in any horror movies. The story is original and the direction is fantastic. This is what horror movies need to start aiming to be, smart and visceral. The sequel is not as good as the original but it is still better than 90% of the horror movies that come out on a regular basis. One of the great things about this series is the fact that they do not shy away from extreme violence. The creatures in the movie are nasty and the pain they inflict is just as nasty. People get their throats ripped out, they get gutted and the monsters get crushed by rocks and battered in multiple ways. I'm trying to keep details limited because I do not want to spoil the plot at all. Overall I would recommend watching these movies. They need to be watched back to back because the second movie picks up right where the first leaves off. This is what more horror movies need to be like and if you watch it then you will know what I mean.
